About Gorman Houston
Gorman Houston has three specific questions when it comes to any business: How does your organization add value to the market? Is there opportunity for growth? Is the business plan scalable and sustainable?
As a strategic marketer, he knows that these are the foundations of a healthy business. He deeply believes that any organization should be held accountable to these questions when he’s advising or making investments.
Gorman Houston has years of experience in communication, human-relations, management, and team-building. His ability to see problems within an organization and create long-term solutions that are team-based helps businesses achieve sustainable goals. He has years of teaching, advising and coaching expertise which make him stand out from his competitors, because he combines this with professional marketing, fundraising and negotiating skills. As a minister and a businessman, his mission has always been to empower others and help them navigate life’s difficulties in order to succeed.
Coming from a business family gave Gorman Houston excellent role models from a very young age. He learned about work ethics and the importance of having goals from his parents. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at the University of Virginia, then continued on to receive a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Alabama. He earned a Master of Divinity from Yale and received his Doctorate in Ministry from Emory University.
Throughout his life, business and theology have always been important, but their roles have become reversed. His career path started in Theology, where he served many congregations for 25 years. He became a minister in 1985, before becoming a professor at the University of Alabama in 2010. He still holds that position, but also preaches in his spare time, as well as being a campus ministry coordinator.
He loves to work with students and has coached the University of Alabama Inter-Collegiate Sales Competition Team. He counsels teens and gives them career and personal relationship advice, both at the University of Alabama and in the greater Tuscaloosa area.
His desire to help the community remains as strong as his business philosophy, and Gorman Houston has served as Chairperson of several fundraisers. He has worked with Blue Lake United Methodist Camp, established a YMCA in Greenville, Alabama, built an interfaith chapel and has implemented major physical plant renovation and expansion projects.
